LIDO SHORES PAVILION

The pavilion proposal for Lido Shores in Sarasota, Florida, offers a resilient, flexible space for community use—from quiet reflection to outdoor gatherings. Positioned along the coast, the project responded to significant environmental challenges, including the risk of flooding, material degradation from saltwater exposure, and the need to reflect the area’s coastal character. Inspired by a previous pavilion destroyed by hurricanes, the new design emphasizes durability, adaptability, and community engagement.

To mitigate flood risk, the pavilion was relocated to higher ground, connected to the original site by a wooden boardwalk. This raised position enhances safety while preserving the site's connection to the water. A central design element is the sculptural canopy, shaped with undulating members that mimic the rhythm of waves and coastal winds. It offers protection from harsh sun and rain while creating a dynamic architectural identity rooted in the natural environment.
