ESTERO HOUSE V2
Estero House is a thoughtful single-family residence located near Estero Bay in Bonita Springs, Florida. Nestled in a rapidly developing subdivision, the project responds to the clients' desire for a home rooted in traditional Gulf Coast Florida vernacular—simple forms, climate-responsive elements, and understated elegance—while introducing modest modern updates suited to their personalized contemporary needs.
The design centers on a highly efficient floor plan that clearly separates public and private zones, interior and exterior spaces, all organized around a centralized core. This back-of-house hub consolidates structural support, mechanical systems, and service functions, freeing the perimeter for maximized views, natural light, and fluid connections between rooms. The result is an open yet purposeful layout that feels spacious without excess.
Climate control and privacy are elegantly addressed through operable screens on the east-west elevations, allowing residents to fine-tune daylight, cross-ventilation, heat gain, and seclusion. On the north-south sides, fixed screens with strategic openings modernize the classic Florida block aesthetic, framing windows and adding layered depth to the façade.
Sideyard planters provide natural screening from neighbors while managing water runoff, contributing to both privacy and sustainability. From the street, the house presents an understated, almost reserved presence: planter walls and closed screens create a quiet buffer, signaling calm and retreat. When the operable screens are opened, the personality shifts—becoming inviting and lively. Layers of gardens, benches, and screens encourage exploration, guiding visitors on a gentle path to the entry with small moments of discovery along the way.
Inside, the entry foyer offers a brief pause before branching into public or private areas. Key living spaces—kitchen, dining, and living—are unified through smart furniture placement, cabinetry, and a galley kitchen, creating defined yet open zones. Glass walls on opposing ends, layered with screens, ensure flexibility and abundant light.
Sliding glass doors connect interiors to inhabitable exterior areas, forming versatile interstitial spaces that can extend either indoors or out. A central courtyard garden thoughtfully separates the primary bedroom from the more social lanai, with exterior screens and recessed shades allowing privacy when needed.
Overall, Estero House achieves a refined balance: respectful of regional traditions, efficient in form and function, and delightfully adaptable to Florida's climate and lifestyle. It feels modest in scale yet generous in experience—quietly confident, responsive, and alive with possibility.
